Australia day - Scanes style
Friday, April 24th, 2009Tonight (yes I am writing this after everyone has gone home, whilst polishing off a bottle of wine…well I haven’t had all of it…Colette had some and shared it with the carpet*
) we had a small gathering at ours to celebrate our PR status. And to get us into the spirit of things (no pun intended, but oddly apt), thanks to Elesa, Andrew, Adam, Kaz, Kaz (yes there were two, I’m not that tipsy), Eric & Colette, our home is now adorned with various items of Australiana. Adam and Kaz arrived with a bunch of Australian Native flowers (one of which was a suspiciously South African protea), a pack of frozen meat pies (how Aussie can you get) and a cake resembling the continent of Australia (including Tassie - how sweet) iced in the colours of the Australian flag (kind of! Loved the effort Adam). Elesa and Andrew provided us with classic dollar shop items - an Australian flag table cloth, mouse pad, coasters, fridge magnets, dish towel and temporary tattoos (waiting on our fridge for the next Australia day, under the fridge magnets). Kaz and Eric and Colette provided us with the RED wine (Kaz’s had a RED stripe on it…very Aussie
), one of the colours of the Australian flag (and strangely the South African flag- or not so strangely, but I’ve had a bit to drink so you’ll forgive me).
All in all it was a good evening of friends, food and wine. We are truly blessed to have found friends of the life-long variety during our relatively short stay in Aus. Luv you guys, wouldn’t trade you for the world. And as for those who couldn’t make it tonight - there will be many more occasions to celebrate in the future!
* The salt and white wine methods for removing red wine stains from carpets are surprisingly effective!
